Parallel Cores

  • A mass of parallel fibers fed into either a crosshead extruder or a braider
  • One of the highest strength to weight ratios in theory but it is difficult to achieve 100% equal load sharing in the terminations
  • Terminations are usually potted or mechanical and have limited splicing
  • Excellent for static applications
  • Not well suited for dynamic or bending situations
  • Low elongation to load ratio
